Giraffe

Last night I had a rather odd dream, perhaps it was because I'm beginning to get good sleep again. In my dream I was on a bus with a giraffe, later on a hill with the giraffe. Basically this giraffe was being carted around until we got to a spot where we could help it deliver the baby giraffe inside of it. I was to help with the delivery.

The end.

Josh + Heather = Engaged

Last night I had a dream involving two very dear friends: Joshua W. and Heather B. Somewhere along the course of my dream, Josh gained paralysis of the legs. However, this was not too tragic, for I soon found out that Josh and Heather were engaged. But, I was still sad, because I felt I was losing you both. Don't fear, Joshua, for you and Heather were still able to canoe in the midst of your paralysis.

Shoes and Bums

Wednesday night I dreamed that I was going with a bunch of NWC people to some conference. Also coming along was my maternal grandmother. We had to stay the night, but gma wanted to save money. So, my grandmother, eldest sister Heather, Dorene, various others and I decided to sleep on the sidewalk . . . right outside a hotel.

The hotel managers weren't too happy about that and made us get rooms. My grandmother said she used to live there, on account that it doubled as a permanent and temporal residence. The place was nice, everything in dark greens, maroons and antique browns. A two person room was $20.50; I recall this because Dorene were sharing a room and agreed to split the cost. In my wallet was a twenty, four ones, and a five. I found it rather inconvenient, and while I tried to figure a way to evenly split the cost, I was rushed to a shoe store.

It was the morning and Dorene and I were to head to the conference. Our only problem was that we needed black shoes. I was wearing black ballet slipper dress shoes--but one does not quickly notice this in a dream. Dorene and I looked around the store which seemed to contain only black shoes.

In my dream it seemed that Dorene and I were also to split the cost of the shoes and share them. This was before I realized I was wearing black shoes and thought it wouldn't work to share shoes when we needed them for the same event, simultaneously. More to the forefront of my mind, however, was the thought that Dorene had slightly smaller feet than me--a half size or so--and I wanted us to pick out a shoe in my size and not hers (I don't recall if Dorene has smaller feet or not in actuality).

I moved over to my size of shoes and saw a pair of black converse low-top sneakers. I thought they would be perfect. As I tried them on, they grew into chunky platform heels. Moreover, they grew beyond high tops and their mid-calf top was lined with black faux fur. It was at this moment that my dream self realized I had black shoes on my feet and ought to head to the conference, but man was that shoe a pain to take off!

Hillary Duff

Sometimes my dreams transform me into pop celebrities. It never makes much sense. Last night I dreamed that I was Hillary Duff.

Much of my dream was a blur: me in a garden, driving in Saint Paul, in an office building.

In the building everyone was dressed in black. There was also a party in New York City by invitation only. I wanted to go because Edgar was going, and I wanted to meet Edgar.

Apparently in this office, Luke (art prof) worked and he recommended me for a job that I thought I wasn't qualified for (not having gotten my degree and all). So, I talked to his boss and got an invite to the party in New York.

I was pretty excited and went to buy a headband. In the store, they were talking about some celebrity who had bought some yellow and purple thin headbands. I traded the thick white headband on my head for a go at one of these thin head bands. The lady at the counter advised me against it.

"Besides," she said, "it's an all-white party."

I was dressed in all black with a white headband.

Art Event

A couple nights ago I dreamed that I was working for some nonprofit organization. We met in a large sparse room and did whatever we did. We were throwing some sort of art benefit or event, and were en route. On the way, we came to a spot in which there was about a ten foot wall, then the land behind it had a chain link fence.

We had to get through somehow and took two different routes. One seemed a bit easier but proved ineffective. I tried the more difficult route. It involved climbing up a stone blocked structure which angled in such a way that you had to rely only on your arm strength to get up.

I was the first to climb and others joined after, all falling off. I found myself close to the peak and straining vigorously. I know not whether I made it up; however, I do know that I made it to the event.

The event was held in a large open space and had sculptures, performance artists, and a live band. There was also a swimming pool.

The band of visual artists began playing and apparently Reed was at the event and we both stood and observed. I was rather excited, because the band started playing "Bohemian Rhapsody."

From there, I went on to swim, but I couldn't find my swimsuit and had to give up on the idea.

Fin.

Office Episodes in Bottles and South America

Last night I dreamed that I went to South America on some type of missions trip with people from my school. I know that Joe Smith was there and also Dorene H.; everyone else was a blur. We were in Sao Paolo, but not Brazil. I think we were in Paraguay or Bolivia.

In my dream we were working with the kids. Apparently we were trying to teach them English, but we were doing so by showing them episodes of The Office. The episodes were stored in water bottles with a red tie around the cap. We hoped they would be interested in the episodes and seek to learn the meanings of words so they could understand the show.

Apparently the episodes were all burned copies and we didn't feel comfortable distributing them. However, the children fell in love with the show so much that they wanted our copies of the shows. We gave in and said our good byes.

For some reason, the kids came with us to the airport, and though they weren't coming back with us, we wanted to get them back through security for some reason. Dorene was at the head of the pack talking to the security guards. She left and that left me in charge.

In perfect English and accent, the guard asked me "Do you speak Spanish?"

"Yes, a little."

"Then you will do well to use as much of it as you possibly can."

So, I began in Spanish and delineated why we were in the country and who we were. I blanked and could not remember how to conjugate into anything other than the present tense. He was pleased with my answer and let us go, but not without taking my glasses. Later I saw another guard with a pair of glasses in his left hand and I asked him for them.

He gave me the glasses, which were sunglasses, and not my own at all. He said that it was much better for me to have some glasses than none.

And we went on our way.

Chicago Dine and Dash

The past two weekends (in real life) I have spent in Chicago, whether intended or not. This weekend I spent it there only in my dreams. Last night I dreamed that I was in a Spaghetti Factory in Chicago (however, it resembled the spaghetti factory in Omaha's Old Market). And though it looked like a Spaghetti Factory, it also was an Olive Garden.

I was there with a large group of people, presumably some class or something. Well, after we placed our orders, there was a sort of intermission, and we all went outside. When we came back in, we found that only a few of the tables had salads on them. So, I began rearranging the tables to switch that with the salad with the table I was seated at. Apparently, this was much more reasonable than moving the salads themselves.

The tables were shaped like the salad plates that I currently am helping to make with my summer job with a potter. With all the moving of tables and such, I don't recall eating, or getting my meal. I do recall leaving.

Afterwards, I wondered if I had dined and dashed (minus the dining, so more like ordered and dashed). I was relating my concern to Kyle Wyatt, while we and more of the larger group ate sushi.

We left the place, only for me to fear that I had dined and dashed yet again. When we left, we both grabbed our bikes, because we wanted to save gas money and the environment. We began biking through what looked to be North Park in Story City; however, it was filled with mounds for BMX. This didn't phase us, and Kyle especially, I would get too scared to go down the steep hills, and when I told him about it, he confessed that he had wet himself while going down one rather steep hill.

From here I biked alone along a highway. The highway was made of what resembled acrylic gold shag carpet, and the hills which bordered it were clumps of glittering asphalt. I became very fatigued cycling...
